ZDP-189 Powdered High Speed Tool Steel
ZDP-189 (Hitachi Metals Ltd.) powder metallurgy ‘super steel’ was developed to compete with Cowry X. It has a similar chemical composition to Cowry X and offers a similar level of performance. Unfortunately, due to the difficulty of producing ZDP-189 and the special forging and heat-treatment it requires, knives that use this steel are expensive and relatively rare.
